Nasal Mask Comparison
-
1989: Personal Inhaler Plus™ (PIP+™) Nasal Mask
-
2011: ClearView™ Nasal Masks
-
2017: Axess™ Low Profile Nasal Masks
Accutron first launched the Personal Inhaler Plus™ Nasal Hood in 1989. To this day, our original design set the standard for single-use nasal masks and remains a favorite of many thanks to the wide assortment of colors/scents.
Accutron™ PIP+™ Nasal Masks offer:
- Reliable, comfortable nitrous oxide/oxygen delivery
- Three size options (small, medium and large) for the perfect fit
- Bright colors and pleasing scents engage and relax patients (unscented also available)
- Material not made from natural rubber latex to reduce allergy concerns
Multi-Use PIP+™ Nasal Masks are also available (unscented).
Next came ClearView™ Nasal Hoods, which took into consideration the monitoring of patient breathing and sought to provide a more advanced fit against the patient's face.
Accutron™ ClearView™ Nasal Masks offer:
- Mask-in-mask design to minimize ambient nitrous oxide in operatory
- A clear outer mask for visual monitoring of patient's breathing
- Soft inner mask creating an improved facial seal
- Lower* profile for expanded clinical field of view
- Easy conversion of scavenging circuits
- Three size options (pediatric, adult, large adult) for the perfect fit
- Bright colors and pleasing scents engage and relax patients (unscented also available)
- Material not made from natural rubber latex to reduce allergy concerns
*Compared to PIP+ design
Our latest innovation is Axess™ Low Profile Nasal Hoods. Designed for use with a positive flow system, Axess is the lowest profile nasal mask offering with the thinnest, lightest weight scavenging tubing we have.
Accutron™ Axess™ Nasal Masks offer:
- Unencumbered access to the oral cavity
- A snug fit without tape or cannula for maximum patient comfort
- Translucent design for visual monitoring of patient's breathing
- Significantly lower cost than competing low profile nasal masks
- Three size options (small, medium and large) for the perfect fit
- Bright colors and pleasing scents engage and relax patients (unscented also available)
- Material not made from natural rubber latex to reduce allergy concerns
Did you know?
Single-Use nasal masks were recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA) in their Return to Work toolkit. And with good reason! Single-use masks minimize cross-contamination between patients and save staff time in not having to sterilize.

What system should you choose?
There are two types of nitrous delivery systems -Patient Demand and Positive Flow. Both achieve the same goal -to get nitrous oxide and oxygen to the patient -with different approaches.
- Reservoir bags inpatient demand systems are designed to match the patient’s method of breathing. During the period where there is no inhalation, the bag is filling in preparation for the high volume inhalation.
- When the filling of the bag is matched to the breathing rate of the patient, the patient's needs are met with no wasted gas and no inhalation of room air.
- Inhalations at this high rate require large tubing.
- Without the use of reservoir bags, the inhalation needs of the patient are met through vents or holes in the low-profile mask that allows additional room air to be taken in.
- This flow of room air can dilute the concentration of the medical gases in positive flow systems, so increasing the nitrous oxide percentage and total flow may be necessary.
- NOTE: With maximum nitrous oxide levels limited at 70% on flowmeters and the use of scavenging circuits in place, delivering increased percentages and flow of nitrous oxide is safe for both the patient and clinician. If the flow is higher than the patient needs, the excess will simply be pulled away by the vacuum.
